Family movie night is HUGE at my house. Spending quality time together as a family is one of the most important and impactful things that you can do with your kids. By spending time with them while they are young you are creating a close lifelong relationship and fun memories  too. When you watch a certain movie, does it bring back memories of your childhood for you? I want that for my kids. I want them to remember that my husband and I place an importance on communicating and spending time together because in the end we will feel like we didn't get enough.

It has officially been 13 days since we last saw my husband. He is out fighting a big wild fire here in California and working hard in hard conditions. When he is away at the fire station or on a strike team, I try to come up with different ideas  to keep the kids occupied and their minds off of missing Daddy, especially during the Summer. It usually is scorching hot here so it's too hot to play outside or to go anywhere. You just want to stay inside and turn the air conditioning on low to stay sane. On top of that being able to keep the kids entertained or inspired to play make believe is hard enough when they are cooped up inside.

With school starting in about 2 weeks and Daddy on a strike team, I decided it was time to do something fun at home that my kids would look forward to and get them excited. That's when I decided to throw at home family movie night party! Not just a sit down on the couch and eat popcorn kind of night. I'm talking about a full on themed movie night!

While on one of my essential shopping trips to Walmart stocking up on fall smelling wax melts for my warmer ( because I might slightly be addicted) and laundry soap, I went to  the electronics area because my camera needed a new SD card for some new blog pictures. I then strolled by the phones, because the tech geek in me loves to see new technology and designs and I stumbled across the COOLPAD Catalyst for $59.88 and the phone plan that is seriously inexpensive! $49.88 PLUS PLAN for up to 10GB of 4G LTE data and unlimited talk and text per line. Since Family Mobile bills you later, you only have to pay $19.88 when you sign up which is the "Starter Kit" that you purchase along with your phone in store. With sending my son and daughter off to school, I thought it would be great for them to be able to have an emergency phone if they walked to and from school on some days. As a mother, it would give me peace when they texted me when they arrived at school and then called me after to school. It would also help me a lot with sports practices and more. Also, to be honest, call me crazy but I'll grab it if I know my phone is about to die and I have to go somewhere and need to be reachable.

With the Walmart Family Mobile Plus Plan, you also get a free movie every month with the VUDU app    ( a $7 value)! How cool is that? Since I already had downloaded the VUDU app to my TV, I'm able to watch all the movies on my big screen smart TV.  So, I grabbed the phone, paid for the $19.88 "Starter Kit"  and then took it home to set it up and activate it. Seriously easy.

I then grabbed everything that I needed for a movie night party and went home to get started. Walmart had everything I needed for the party and the phone plan for my everyday life so it was a win win for me that day. My kids were so excited to watch a movie with a little party and even play some games on the new Walmart Family Mobile phone! Having that free movie every month will be something we look forward to as a family. It will also help us save money and create memories!

The first thing I created for our party was the Angry Birds puppy chow. My kids absolutely love puppy chow so I wanted to put a creative spin on it. Since my kids are adamant about which bird and bird colors are their favorite I choose what was dear to their hearts. You know kids, and their favorite characters. We ended up with red bird, blue bird and green pigs. Now brace yourself for some recipes!...

After I made all of the puppy chow and food, it was time to set up the party.

By this point my kids were getting so excited. They had no idea I was going ALL out! It made my heart happy to see their faces light up.

I made mini pigs in a blanket using turkey cocktail hotdogs, the puppy chow, an Angry Bird game style cupcake stand, an angry bird banner made with a printable and tiny doilies on twine with mini clothespins. I also created the drink dispenser to look like the red bird and king pig with a printable and red feathers on the back of the bird. I then created Angry Birds characters by hanging paper lanterns and flowers with face printables. It is like they are flying through the air just like the game.

After it was all set up and the kids were jumping up and down! The kids ran to the couch and sat down as the movie started and I was right behind them with snacks in tow.

They enjoyed their puppy chow and drinks while we all sat on the couch and watched the movie. I even snuck out the new phone and check my e-mail quickly enough that they didn't even notice.

It's nights like these that I want to remember. The one's where they are little and tell me that I make the best parties ever while giving me a big excited hug. I know they won't be little forever and when I really take a step back and think about that, it makes me want to freeze this moment forever.

So, I encourage you to spend more quality time together and cherish the moments even through the messes and everything else. All of the cleaning chores will always be there, but our children won't always be there to make them.

Spending quality time together doesn't have to break the bank. All it takes is a little bit of creativity and everything you need at your local Walmart.
