It's Tuesday and that means it's time for another round of #KnockitOffDIY!
Today I'm sharing with you my World Market Inspired Dinosaur watercolor canvas art. You can check out the $60 original here and mine was $12 by using coupons at the craft store on top of the canvases being 50% off. You can also check out the other blogger's #knockitoff projects too at the end of the tutorial!
My son is really into dinosaurs and Jurassic World right now. He has requested that his room be a mix of dino + army so I've been wracking my brain for some cool ideas so that it isn't too cheesy. He's 9 and thinks he's becoming a teenager soon so some things are too "baby" for him. This challenge helped me get motivated to create some cool and simple wall art and it was boy approved!
WHAT YOU NEED //
Vinyl
Silhouette Machine
watercolors
2 Canvases
Computer
Cup of water
Paper towel
OPTIONAL:blow dryer
STEP 1: Cut out your dinosaur shape on your silhouette machine. Then peel out the middle of the dinosaur. I used THIS dino shape and THIS one too.
STEP 2: Peel off the remaining vinyl and place it on your canvas to create a stencil. Make sure that your really rub the edges down so that the watercolor will not seep underneath.
STEP 3: Now it's time to watercolor! Use multiple colors to achieve a real watercolor look. My tip: The less water you use the darker the color will be.More water and you get the watercolor affect. Mix both techniques with multiple colors to achieve your desired look.
STEP 4: Blot very gently and let dry completely. Or you can turn your blow dyer on low and dry it quickly.
There are SO many shapes that you could cut out and watercolor on canvas! I already want to try one other one soon!
Now you can head over and check out the other World Market inspired projects and they are gorgeous! Which one is your favorite?

These look awesome! What a cool project. I wish I had a silhouette. I would watercolor all the things.

Love how these turned out! The watercolor effect is really pretty and it's a great money saving project--looks just like the inspiration piece!
So crafty! Watercolor effect can be tricky to achieve but you have some really good tips. My kids would love this project. We just had a Jurassic Park marathon. lol
I must say I've never heard of a silhouette machine before, but if it helps me make cut-outs with that kind of precision, it is clearly an amazing thing! Great project!
