Easy DIY Joanna Gaines & Fixer Upper Chandelier

It's the third Tuesday of the month and that means it's time for the official kick off of #ItsSoUglyItsCool challenge hosted by Domicile37! Today I'm sharing my thrift store find and showing you how I transformed it into a DIY Joanna Gaines & Fixer Upper style inspired chandelier! There are more fabulous bloggers that you can check out at the end of this post.

A few years ago I was on the hunt for a chandelier. I headed to my local Habitat For Humanity and found this beast for $20.

Totally outdated right? The bones were great, but the crystal and brass were not my style at all. I loved the detail on the glass so I knew I could do something with it!

Fast forward until now. Light bulb went off in my head. I wanted a chandelier like this one but didn't want to pay the price.

Now I know my end result doesn't look like this but this was my inspiration. It is so french country Fixer Upper!

HERE IS WHAT YOU NEED:
Cream latex paint
Baking soda
3 paint brushes
Drop cloth
Oil rubbed bronze spray paint
Bronze glaze
White pickling glaze
Tan latex paint
Black glaze
Foil
Newspaper
Painters tape

Start out by adding baking soda and the cream latex paint in an old tupperware bowl. Mix together equal parts and add a little water. This will create a thick chalk paint. Then paint that onto the center part and the parts on the arms where the lights go.

After you have paint all of that. Tape off the arms and protect the body of the chandelier with newspaper and foil and spray paint the arms with oil rubbed bronze.

Let the arms dry completely. Then take off the foil, newspaper and tape.

Start painting the body and arm caps with the light tan.

Let dry completely. Then dry brush on the black glaze very lightly. Let dry. Then the bronze glaze, let dry. Then finish with the white glaze to make it look old. Remember this style of chandelier doesn't have to be perfect.

Let all of that dry completely and then you are ready to hang! *If you are going to be using the chain, remember to paint that too.

Now head on over and see what the others scored and turned into something cool.

This is freakin' amazing! Using foil is genius and the finish you achieved with paint is awesome. My mom is saving me a similar brass chandy.... now I know what to do with it!
