This makeover is only about a year overdue. You see, I found this little gem that on the side of the road about a year ago with the very intention of turning into a metallic gold framed chalkboard.
Sadly, it has sat in my garage the whole time.
I even squealed with excitement when I saw it laying on the curb for city clean up. Obviously the previous owner didn't see the potential nor was a DIYer. Win for me!
It was completely covered in thick dirt/dust and cobwebs... the cobwebs even had dead spiders all in them.
I hate spiders but had to get over it for a minute to stuff this in the back of my SUV.
I drove off with a big smile on my face.
Now fast forward to today. I can happily say that it is complete and I am in love!
It is also one less project on the to do list and I have been on a roll.
First I took out the mirror and I wiped down the frame with soap and water then dried it off. I removed all the cobwebs and spiders.
After it was dry I primed it with 2 coats of Valspar white primer from Lowe's and let that dry completely.
Then I sprayed 2-3 coats of Valspar Metallic gold.
After the metallic gold was dry and not sticky, I used Valspar's chalkboard paint and painted 3 coats. You want to make sure that there isn't any brown speckles showing through. Let that dry overnight.
Hang it and the chalkboard art is endless!

Really, really beautiful! I hate spiders too, but would brave even live ones for this little gem. Have a lovely week!
