Being healthy can be fun! Smart Thinking Lifestyle Tips for children.

Thanks to Tervis for sponsoring my writing. Visit their website www.tervis.com to learn more about the world’s first smart cup.

As a young mother of two, I take full responsibility of what my children eat and do. We as moms, are the biggest influence and set the standard for what is healthy in our homes. The typical American mom is hard working and is sometimes forced to depend on fast food in some cases to feed their children on the go. They also, have little down time to be physically active with their children. The good thing is that everyday we have the opportunity to change the way we eat and how much physical activity we get!

All it takes is little changes everyday to be on our way to living a healthy lifestyle! Get motivated, make smart changes in your diet, get some physical activity and be an example for your children! Let your kids be excited about healthy foods and exercise!

One way to get your kids excited about being healthy is make healthy food fun! Create animals or shapes out of food like the photo above using apples grapes and dried fruit. Choose to switch out sugar packed snacks with healthy sweet fruit, nuts and veggies. Easier said than done right? We all know that kids can be picky eaters! Try taking your child's favorite meal and finding healthier ways to prepare it. Instead of fried chicken nuggets try baked chicken pieces. Opt for apple slices instead of fries or if at home green beans! My kids love fresh green beans with parmesan cheese sprinkled on top.

Let them help prepare the healthy food and come up with new ways to serve it. Put baby carrots in the shape of a heart or smiley face on their plate. The internet is an amazing place to search for different ideas for children for healthier options. It might take a while for your children to get used to the change but if you let them be involved they will love it!

Get them moving! Ride your bike with them, take them on walks or to the park. Let them help walk the dog, race them to the fence and back and let them win. I cannot stress to you how important it is to motivate them to get moving and most importantly have fun doing it!

Instead of turning to fast food, try pre-packed healthy snacks that you make at home and have them handy in the car or your purse. You can make healthy meals in advance and freeze them so you can get them out and pop in the oven. Do simple switches like ground beef to ground turkey, veggie oil to olive oil, white pasta and bread to whole wheat everything!

So to all the moms out there...FITNESS CAN BE FUN! By changing your lifestyle, you will be bettering your children's and setting them up for a healthy life! So don't forget to pack your healthy snacks, get them moving, make healthy food fun and get them involved!

Since Halloween is right around the corner here is a fun healthy snack for the kids!

Instructions
